Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our water self-rescue program.

What age can my child start?

Children can begin as young as 6 months old. The program is designed for children ages 6 months to 6 years.

How long is the program?

The program runs 6–8 weeks. Lessons are 10 minutes per day, 5 days per week (Monday through Friday).

Why are lessons only 10 minutes?

Young children have limited attention spans and tire quickly in water. Short, consistent daily lessons are more effective than longer, less frequent sessions. This is the proven methodology used by ISR programs worldwide.

Do I need a pool?

Yes, you need access to a private pool. Sandra comes to your home pool for all lessons. The pool should be heated to at least 85°F for infants.

What should my child wear?

Regular swim diaper and swimsuit for most lessons. Part of the program includes clothed swimming to simulate real-life scenarios, so you will need a set of everyday clothes for those sessions.

Will my child cry?

Some children may cry during initial lessons, especially younger infants. This is normal and expected. Sandra's background in Human Behavior and Cognition helps her work with each child's temperament. Most children adjust within the first week.

Is this safe?

Yes. Sandra is a trained professional with 13 years of experience, lifeguard certification, and specialized training in infant aquatics. Safety is the foundation of everything we do.

How much does it cost?

Please contact Sandra directly for current pricing and session availability. Investment varies based on program length and your child's needs.

Do you offer lessons in Spanish?

Yes! Sandra is fully bilingual in English and Spanish. All instruction and communication can be conducted in your preferred language.

What areas do you serve?

Sandra serves Carlsbad, Oceanside, Vista, Encinitas, and surrounding North County San Diego communities.

Can children with special needs participate?

Absolutely. Sandra holds an Autism Aquatics certification and has experience working with neurodiverse children. She adapts her approach to meet each child's unique needs.
